The Office of the City Veterinarian (OCVet) on Saturday was still waiting for the result of the confirmatory tests of three blood samples that tested positive for African swine fever (ASF) at the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RADDL) of the Department of Agriculture in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. The confirmatory tests were done at RADDL General Santos City as the Ipil laboratory has no equipment to determine if the viral infection is due to ASF, hog cholera, and porcine reproductive respiratory syndrome, which all have similar signs and symptoms. MAL Rules Out African Swine Fever (AF) in Death of 21 Pigs at Aola

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) has confirmed that the death of 21 pigs at Aola, East Central Guadalcanal, was caused by poor pig husbandry and management practices and not the African Swine Fever (ASF).
A six-member team from the ministry’s livestock department and biosecurity department responded to reports of pigs and piglets being sick and dying from some farmers in Aola on 17th April 2021.
Deputy Director of Livestock and Veterinary Services of MAL, Hearley Atupule who headed the team said the swift response was taken as part of the ministry’s alertness and preparedness to contain any possible incursion of ASF in the country. ....
