BIG HARVEST: These days, with record corn yields pushing the stratosphere every year, it is unimaginable that farmers wouldn’t have jumped on the hybrid seed corn bandwagon right away. However, it was university side-by-side trials with open-pollinated varieties across different growing zones that convinced farmers of the superiority of this new cropping technology.
Then and Now: In March 1941, studies were comparing open-pollinated corn yields with the latest hybrid varieties.
