Baylor Seeks Artists to Create Life-Sized Statues of University's First Black Graduates | Media and Public Relations

Mrs. Barbara Walker, B.A. ’67. The statues will ultimately reside in front of Baylor’s historic Tidwell Bible Building. The University has initiated the process to receive Requests for Qualifications (RFQs) from interested artists. More details, as well as a form to fill out to receive more information, can be found on the Baylor underwent an extensive process during the past year to research its complete history with the establishment of the Commission on Historic Campus Representations. The Commission’s work was made public via a report in March 2021, and one of its key recommendations was to better communicate the many contributions of Black students, faculty and staff throughout Baylor’s history, including through physical representations on the campus.

A unique view: Stock reflects on time as vice provost at W&M

As vice provost for academic & faculty affairs (VPAFA) the past four years, she has had an opportunity to broadly impact teaching and learning. Stock, a professor of Hispanic studies and film and media studies, brought her own unique perspective to the job. “She is widely regarded as an outstanding teacher, internationally renowned scholar and successful academic leader,” Provost Peggy Agouris wrote in a campus message. “Most recently, in her four-year term as vice provost, Ann Marie has consistently demonstrated her creativity, collaborative spirit and commitment to the institution and, in doing so, has brought about significant and lasting changes.”

Journalism Chair Mia Moody-Ramirez Honored as Cornelia Marschall Smith Professor of the Year

WACO, Texas (May 5, 2021) – Mia Moody-Ramirez, Ph.D., professor and chair of journalism, public relations and new media at Baylor University and a nationally recognized author and expert on race and culture, has been named the 2021 Cornelia Marschall Smith Professor of the Year. The Cornelia Marschall Smith Professor of the Year Award recognizes a Baylor faculty member who makes a superlative contribution to the learning environment at Baylor through: Teaching, which is judged to be of the highest order of intellectual acumen and pedagogical effectiveness. Research and creative activity, which is recognized as outstanding by the national and/or international as well as local community of scholars.

W&M Commencement award winners to join Pres. Rowe for Community Conversation

The James Frederic Carr Memorial Cup The James Frederic Carr Memorial Cup was established in honor of a William & Mary student who served with distinction in the First World War and lost his life before he could return to graduate. The award recognizes the student who best exemplifies character, scholarship and leadership. The recipient of the 2021 Carr Memorial Cup is Abram Clear ’21. Clear will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in linguistics and anthropology and recently accepted an offer to pursue a fully-funded linguistics M.A. at University of Toronto. A 2021 Rhodes Scholarship finalist, Clear distinguished himself as a true academic and campus leader. His senior honors thesis focused on the dialect of his family, based in the Appalachian Mountains, specifically on vowel production and perception.
