The Museum of the Bible in Washington DC has returned around 5,000 ancient artifacts to Egypt after evidence showed that they were brought to the United States illegally during the Arab Spring.
According to the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the items include “nearly 5,000 manuscripts and pieces of papyrus, with texts in Coptic, hieratic and demotic script, and Greek; manuscripts of Christian religious prayers; in addition to a number of funerary masks, parts of coffins, heads of stone statues, and a group of portraits of the deceased.” ....

The Museum of the Bible has just returned 5000 illegally excavated objects to Egypt


The objects have been at the museum since 2016 when Egypt began seeking repatriation of the objects. 
Since opening its doors the museum has come under fire for incomplete provenance.
In returning to Egypt, the pieces will now be displayed at the Coptic Museum in Cairo, Egypt. 
The Museum of the Bible is a privately owned American institution. As of 27 January 2021 the Washington, DC based museum has returned some 5 000 objects to the Egyptian government. This after the American Department of Homeland Security and the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities have been in talks regarding the stolen artefacts since 2017. 
The objects have been in the possession of the museum since 2016 when Egypt began seeking repatriation of the objects.  ....

The Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC has returned some 5,000 artifacts to the Egyptian government, after years of talks between agencies including the Department of Homeland Security and the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The objects have been held at the Museum since its opening in 2016. Egypt has been seeking repatriation of the objects, which it says were smuggled illegally out of the country, for just as long. ....

Egypt retrieves 5,000 artifacts from the US


Cairo: Egypt has recovered about 5,000 artifacts, which were earlier smuggled from the country. The pieces, which were in the possession of the Holy Bible Museum in the US, were handed over to Egypt after efforts from the ministries of tourism and antiquities as well as foreign affairs in conjunction with US authorities, according to Egyptian officials.
The collection includes manuscripts and pieces of papyrus with texts written in the Coptic language, hieratic and demotic script, and the Greek language.
They also include manuscripts of Christian religious prayers written in Arabic and Coptic together or Arabic only, the Egyptian officials added. ....
