No loosening grip, single day’s laxity may squander efforts made till now, cautions Health Ministry official
There is a continued plateauing in daily new Covid 19 cases in as many as a dozen States over the last two weeks, but it not time to loosen the grip as it could cost the country hugely in the near future, a Health Ministry official said on Wednesday. These States and Union Territories witnessing a declining trend in daily cases are Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Daman & Diu, Ladakh, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar.
Stand By, India : Serum Institute Sends Out Vaccines, 1st Batch In Delhi Covishield Vaccine: Thirty crore people will be administered the vaccine in the first phase of the nationwide inoculation drive which will begin on January 16.

The first batches of Covishield, the Serum Institute of India s coronavirus vaccine, left Pune early this morning for Delhi and 12 other cities, four days ahead of the nationwide inoculation drive against COVID-19.
Amid tight security, three temperature-controlled trucks rolled out of the Serum Institute gates with their precious cargo shortly before 5 am. The trucks carried 478 boxes of the vaccines, each box weighing 32 kg, news agency PTI reported quoting an unnamed official. A puja was performed, along with the traditional breaking of coconuts, before the vehicles headed out of the facility for the Pune airport.
Twenty boxes, each with 12,000 Covishield vials, were received at Guwahati airport today.

Assam has received the first consignment of over 2 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine Covishield, and the airport in Guwahati, known as the gateway to the northeast, has been made a nodal hub for its distribution across the seven states in the region.
Twenty boxes, each containing 12,000 doses of Covishield, were received in Guwahati today. Of these 17 are meant for Assam while the remaining three, containing 36,000 doses, will be sent to Meghalaya.
The northeastern states will be getting both Covishield and Covaxin vaccines, government sources said.
Over the next few days, more boxes of the life-saving drug are expected at the Guwahati airport from where they will be taken to Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura via road or air, including flights, choppers and small cargo planes depending on the weather conditions.

The government plans to purchase a total of 5.60 crore doses of Serum Institute of India s Covishield vaccine by April 2021, at Rs 200 per dose. While 1.10 crore doses of Covishield were purchased on Monday, there is a commitment to purchase another 4.50 crore doses by April 2021.
