The Indian Supreme Court has deferred ruling on whether non-marital children are entitled to a share of their parents ancestral property under Hindu law. A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra heard a plea which has been pending since 2011. The court will also decide if such children are only entitled to a share in the self-acquired property of their parents under Section 16(3) of the Hindu Marriage Act.
