Deputy kills attacking dog, then kills angry owner, police say Updated Apr 29, 2021; Facebook Share HILLSDALE COUNTY, MI – A man and his dog were shot and killed by police Wednesday evening when an animal-at-large complaint quickly escalated into an animal attack followed by a police shooting in Hillsdale County, police say. A Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was dispatched at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, to a dog-at-large complaint at a residence in the 6500 block of S. Edon Road in Reading Township, according to the Michigan State Police. The deputy arrived at the home and was immediately attacked by the dog and bitten, leading the deputy to fatally shoot the animal, police said.

The 32-year-old person from Reading was arrested by Michigan State Police troopers who responded to a report of shots being fired around 8:10 p.m., March 9, in the 6500 block of S. Edon Road, police said. The person was intoxicated and upset and had previously left the home, yelling and firing a handgun into a wooded area behind the home, police said. No injuries were reported.
