Facebook Group "Duluth Does Veganuary!" Challenges Locals To Try Plant-Based Diets

DULUTH, Minn. A Facebook group called “Duluth Does Veganuary!” is challenging Northlanders to try giving up meat and dairy for the month of January.
The group, now in its second year, has more than 650 members and encourages everyone to try going vegan for the full month, but also helps motivate those who are curious about the diet, and maybe want to test it out for a day or a week.
Bonnie Ambrosi, the founder of the local movement, works at one of the Whole Foods Co-op locations in Duluth, and pitched the idea of creating the group to the store’s marketing team. The Co-op helps manage the Facebook group, and promotes the vegan foods in its stores for the month of January. ....

What's next for Duluth's plastic bag fee

With the Duluth City Council s Monday vote, the $.05 plastic bag fee will likely be delayed more than a year from when it was originally supposed to take effect. 
We are quite honestly quite perplexed, Jamie Harvie, coordinator for Bag It Duluth, said. 
He s frustrated by the continued delays and doesn t see the rationale. 
People wanting a plastic bag in Duluth stores will soon be charged $.05.

The Chamber wasn t opposed, citizens were ready, the stores were ready. And so it was just very confusing, he said. 
Stores were supposed to be ready to charge customers $.05 per plastic bag in April 2020. That turned into July, then January. Now, it will be 90 days after Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz s or the City of Duluth s pandemic emergency order expires.  ....
