Dawsonville Council approves solar panel grant application, holds public hearing for rezoning request At the March 1 meeting of the Dawsonville City Council, members allowed city staff to move forward with a solar power grant application and held a public hearing for a rezoning request. Council members heard a presentation from Finance Administrator Robin Gazaway and City Manager Bob Bolz on the city’s efforts to apply for a solar power grant from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA). According to Gazaway, city staff have a plan to put solar panels on the roof of City Hall, as well as at the city’s wastewater treatment facility, using funds from a GEFA grant worth up to $200,000. ....
Dawsonville City Council advances townhome development with non-unanimous vote At a meeting of the Dawsonville City Council on Monday night, council members approved a zoning amendment request with a non-unanimous 3-2 vote, allowing the construction of 24 townhomes off Hwy. 9 in Dawsonville. In its zoning amendment request, Tanco Investments LLC asked the city to rezone 4.09 acres at 315 Hwy. 9 N and 373 Hwy. 9 N from Highway Business District (HB) to Multiple-Family Residential District (R6), to construct a townhome development. In a previous public hearing at the council’s meeting on Feb. 1, Rachel Burton spoke on behalf of Tanco and explained that the development could consist of 24, 1,260 square foot townhomes. No citizens spoke against the rezoning request at the public hearing. ....
