Herring Bay bag limits increased


KETCHIKAN (KDN) — Starting June 1, the sport king salmon bag and possession limit for all anglers in the terminal waters of Herring Bay is increased to three king salmon of any size, according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s Sport Fish Division. The Herring Bay Terminal Harvest Area limits will be in effect through July 31.
King salmon harvested in the terminal harvest area won’t count toward the nonresident annual limit, according to a Sport Fish Division announcement.
The Herring Bay terminal harvest area includes the water of Herring Bay west of a line from the southernmost entrance of Hole-In-The-Wall harbor to the department’s markers (signed and painted rocks) located one-half mile north of Whitman Creek, to the fresh/saltwater boundary signs located at the mouth of Herring Cove Creek. ....

MASTER artist Nathan Jackson receives new national recognition


Nathan Jackson s remarkable story continued this month with his selection as a 2021 United States Artists Fellow in traditional arts.
The Chicago-based national arts funding association on Feb. 3 announced Jackson s inclusion in the 2021 class of 60 fellows from across the country who were chosen for their bold artistic vision and significant impact, with each demonstrating generosity and care toward field-building that continues to inspire and propel their discipline.
Jackson, a world-renowned Tlingit master carver, designer and painter whose artistic endeavors stretch back to the late 1950s, was among seven individuals honored in the Traditional Arts category.
Lynette Miranda, USA program director, said the association is incredibly excited to announce Jackson as one of the 2021 Fellows. ....
