Hermann Grunder is the founding director of the U.S. Department of Energy s Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. In addition to helping shape the lab into its current form, Grunder transformed the vision of the lab s premier particle accelerator in the late 1980s, changing it to one that featured a new superconducting technology and recirculating design.
