SOUTH BEND â In a year marked by distancing and disruption, the University of Notre Dame is calling upon an alumnus with experience rebuilding to address its Class of 2021.
University officials announced Tuesday that Jimmy Dunne, a career financier and Notre Dame trustee, will speak to graduates in the 176th University Commencement Ceremony on May 23.
Dunne, who is now vice chairman of the investment bank Piper Sandler, helped oversee the recovery of his company, Sandler OâNeill, nearly 20 years ago in the aftermath of 9/11.
Notre Dame officials have declined to discuss others who may have been approached to speak at the commencement, which has a long history of presidential speakers.
