The county has contracted Heritage Timber for $150,000 to deconstruct the facility. and last updated 2021-02-01 12:43:50-05 MISSOULA â One of the historic buildings at the Missoula County Fairgrounds will be deconstructed and salvaged for its materials after the county found no takers for the facility, even after offering to pay for its relocation. Building 36, otherwise known as the maintenance shop, is beyond repair, fairgrounds officials said. âWe explored many options to save this building and unfortunately, it wasnât financially feasible to rehab it and the Commercial and Culinary buildings,â said fairgrounds director Emily Brock. âIt would have cost even more than those buildings.â ....
A little piece of Missoula history is being torn down. The Missoula County Fairgrounds have been looking to break ground on the new Rocky Mountain Exploration Center this year, which means they have to clear a little bit of space in order to that. That means that Building 36, which occupies some of the ground that the new center is meant to take, is going to have to move. And while the Fairgrounds and the City were exploring options to relocate the building, it ultimately made no sense financially to save it. On the plus side, the Rocky Mountain Exploration Center that s taking its place does sound really cool. They re currently working with the Missoula Insectarium and plan to include a tropical butterfly house and a demonstration garden on wildflower pollinators. The project will ultimately cost over $12 million. ....
