Heritage Lodge Care Home employee tests positive for COVID variant

  WINNIPEG The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority has said an employee working at the Heritage Lodge Long Term Care Home has tested positive for a COVID-19 variant. Revera, the company that runs the care home, said in a statement on its website that it learned the employee tested for the B.1.1.7. variant on March 13. The company said the worker is currently at home in self-isolation. Revera added a resident has also recently tested positive for COVID-19 and they are currently awaiting the result from that test to determine if it is also a variant case or not. We are committed to doing everything we can to protect the health and safety of our residents, staff members and their families, Revera said in a statement on its website.

Health officials say nine more cases of the B.1.1.7 COVID-19 variant have been confirmed in Manitoba and warn of a recent potential exposure to the highly contagious strain at a busy Winnipeg retailer. With the latest cases of the variant, first identified in the United Kingdom, Manitoba has now reported 64 cases of variants of concern since February, including 52 of B.1.1.7 and 12 of another variant first found in South Africa.

Manitoba Records 96 New Cases Of COVID-19, 47 Recoveries, No Additional Deaths

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 4.4 per cent provincially and 3.4 per cent in Winnipeg. As of 9:30 a.m. today, 96 new cases of the virus have been identified.  However, three cases have been removed due to data correction. This brings the net-new number of cases today to 93 and the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 32,996. Public health officials are announcing that 9 additional confirmed cases as a result of the B.1.1.7 COVID-19 variant of concern first identified in the United Kingdom have been detected. The cases identified today are all from the Winnipeg health region.
