CHICAGO — Preliminary construction for the Obama Presidential Center at Jackson Park has begun, officials said Wednesday while kicking off a process that will cost more than $200 million and take up to several months before the official campus groundbreaking later this year.
The announcement during a news conference outside the Museum of Science and Industry comes two months after a federal review process that for four years had snagged the arrival of the Obama center concluded. At the time, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the conclusion was a “major milestone” and projected preliminary work will start in April. ....

Good morning, it’s Tuesday, April 13, 2021. Seventy-four years ago today, the Brooklyn Dodgers finished the preseason by completing a three-game exhibition series with the New York Yankees. The history books say that baseball’s color barrier was broken on April 15, 1947 opening day. But for the man who broke it, Jack Roosevelt Robinson, it began four days earlier, on April 11, in the first of the Dodgers’ exhibition games against the Yanks.
I’ll explain in a moment. First, though, a personal note: I’m taking some time off during the next two weeks.
