Rarely does an obituary share the history of a house. This one did in the E-G on April 2, 1958: “A former resident of Lancaster, the deceased was the widow of Dr. Charles F. Junkermann, who built the big, red brick house at 405 N. Broad St…and practiced medicine in Lancaster before going to Columbus.”  Dr. Junkermann (1862-1948) practiced in Nelsonville before moving to Lancaster in 1897 and opening an office.
Early in 1900 he purchased the lot on the NW corner of Broad and Union Sts. “The frame building that stands on the front of the lot will be moved to the west end and rented as a dwelling,” (Daily Eagle 28 March 1900). He then hired contractor R. F. Henry to build “a commodious two-story brick residence” on the corner that was estimated to cost $2,900. The handsome brick to be used “will be manufactured by the W.
