Renton High School to change mascot to Redhawks
Renton High School (Renton High School District)
Renton High School’s mascot will change from the Indians to the Redhawks.
Superintendent Dr. Damien Pattenaude announced at a school board meeting on April 14 that Renton High School would be changing its mascot.
A committee made up of students, staff, and alumni took part in the selection process.
The school’s former mascot was named in honor of Henry Moses, who attended Renton High until 1920. Moses was the last chief of the Duwamish Tribe and a direct descendent of Chief Sealth.
On Tuesday, the Marysville School Board voted to remove the Native American mascots at the high school (Tomahawks) and Totem Middle School, home of the Thunderbirds.
