Third Floor Showcase is hosted by Jazzlab on Saturday afternoon, featuring incredible bands from music degrees around Melbourne, curated by Tamara Murphy. There are bands from VCA (The University of Melbourne), Monash University, Box Hill Institute, Victoria University and Melbourne Polytechnic. Lovely Rita is a guitar/bass duo consisting of Henry Cameron and Vincent Barker paying homage to the compositions and works of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. They aim to employ the use of improvisation to reinterpret the Beatles catalogue,whilst capturing the essence of these timeless compositions. Ashes is a newly formed band, run by trumpeter Ashley Ballat. This ensemble plays freely improvised, conceptual pieces of music that are inspired by stories,and movie soundtracks from David Lynch and the music of Bill Frisell, Bjork and Arve Henriksen. ....
