Services for new parents through to young adults in West Auckland have been boosted following decisions by Henderson-Massey Local Board to award leases to three organisations in Te Atatu Peninsula and Te Atatu South.
Plunket, E Tipu E Rea Whanau Services and West Auckland Parents Centre Incorporated are to be awarded the five-year community leases for council-owned buildings in the two areas.

In Te Atatu Peninsula, the local board awarded leases for the two council buildings at Kaumatua Reserve on Te Atatu Road. It followed an expression of interest process where applicants were assessed using a tool to rate a range of criteria.

A Henderson Massey Local Board member says Auckland Council needs four Māori seats to ensure the super city’s growing Māori population is properly represented.
Will Flavell made a submission on Saturday to the Māori affairs select committee supporting a change to the Local Government Act that will allow councils to set up Māori wards without the risk of having their decisions overturned by a referendum triggered by just 5 percent of voters.
He says another law change would be needed to create seats in Tāmaki Makaurau, because the supercity has its own legislation.
