So that video we do expect to see and he explains sort of what happened to her and how tyre had this super strength and her response to that is going to be certainly interesting and something that we are going to want to hear about and see. there is going to be some video perhaps what ultimately led up to this stop of tyre nichols and then just the officers talking. there are still a lot more that needs to come out about this, and i new the memphis police department now that their internal investigation they investigated 13 officers. that s a lot of police officers. of course, seven now being fired. others being suspended. so there is still a lot we need to learn and a lot more information and documents that they say are going to come out and we are going to learn more perhaps about exactly everything that is sort of led up to this and what the officers said afterwards. does it lead to more charges? there is the district attorney certainly is considering charges against that on ....
Going on here. thank you, ken. good to see you again. appreciate it. yeah, yeah, thanks for having me. have a good die. you, too. this morning more than 20 hours of video set to be released related to the brutal police beating death of tyre nichols in january. it comes after officials reveal that a seventh memphis police officer has now been fired. five have been criminally charged. shimon prokupecz joins me now. shimon, good morning to you. so what can we expect to see in the new video? it will be a lot of the officers. it s about 20 hours of video. it s going to be the aftereffects, some of the officers talking about what happened, some of the other officers we see later on arriving on scene. significant also, and there is video of actually tyre s mother talking to officer hemphill. he is the officer who used his taser. she comes to the scene where the car is stopped and she has a conversation with this officer. ....
Developments is shelby county district attorney. there is a sixth officer, preston hemphill, also fired over his role, seen on camera tasing nichols. are you going to bring charges against him? that s not the kind of thing that i can talk about right now. we have an ongoing investigation and an ongoing prosecution. what i can say is we are looking at everybody who was involved directly or indirect in the death of tyre nichols, including officer hemphill, people who showed up after the beating had concluded, but we are we heard about sheriffs deputies, members of the memphis fire department who have been fired or disciplined. so sounds like they are under review as well? correct. that is correct. and we are going to do what we can as quickly as i can. but thoroughly. and we will be making decisions about charges regarding all those people in the time ahead. it s rare for police officers involved in killings to be charged, much less indicted or convicted. ....
Involving that involve some of these officers, whether they were arrests, officers these officers had made arrests or whether they were witnesses, the d.a. saying he s now reviewing those cases. take a listen to what more he said. they are proactively reviewing all the cases involving the five officers plus officer hemphill. the five officers total 75 cases. there s going to be an additional number, i don t know the exact number with officer hemphill then, of course, beyond that if there are individual cases that people bring to our attention whether there s a credible reason to review it, we will review that as well. how concerned are you over some of the activity there that has come to light? i m very concerned. i think anybody would be very concerned. reporter: and, victor, we heard from community members who had ain t acted with this unit which is now no longer, the scorpion unit, that raised issues and the d.a. is saying ....
$5 million alleging his arrest was legally unjustified, unquestionably unconstitutional and unacceptable in any civilized society. the city of memphis did not respond to nbc s request for comment on harris lawsuit. the five former officers named in the suit either could not be reached or chose not to comment. this comes as more details about the tyre nichols case emerge. ex-officer preston hemphill was among the police that pulled nichols over that night. guys, you guys are really doing a lot. reporter: according to official documents obtained by nbc news, hemphill now acknowledges he did not witness nichols driving recklessly. the five ex-officers charged with murder are scheduled to appear in court for the first time next week. attorneys for two of the men have said their clients will plead not guilty. priscilla thompson, nbc news, memphis. up next for us tonight, inside the artificial intelligence arms race. how it could completely change the way we search for things online. ....
