Dubai Police rescue drug addict, send him to rehabilitation centre

Dubai: Dubai Police have rescued a young drug addict after he fell into bad company along with a relative of his who died of a drug overdose. Colonel Abdullah Al Khayat, Director of Hemaya International Centre in Dubai Police, said the youngster, in his 20s, was attached to his relative in spite of knowing that he was a drug addict. The youth’s mother sought help from Dubai Police, who put him in a rehabilitation centre. Police did not slap criminal charges against him according to Article 43 of the Anti-Narcotics Law, which exempts drug users from criminal charges if they voluntarily approach the police for help or are reported by their family or friends.

Delicious juice lures girl, 16, in Dubai to drugs

Dubai: Dubai Police have rescued a teenager who became a drug addict after her friends offered her a ‘delicious juice’ mixed with illegal substances. The 16-year-old girl, identified as ‘Dana’, was lured into addition by her friends who offered her the juice, until she became an addict. Her family discovered the matter after noticing major changes in her lifestyle and sought help from the Hemaya International Centre at Dubai Police. Khawla Jaber Al Obaidaly According to First Lieutenant Khawla Jaber Al Obaidaly, Director of Addiction Counselling Department, the girl was an ambitious teenager but her parents’ negligence made her close to her friends. “She was spending more time with her friends and this led to a big change in her life. She became reckless, angry and irritable. Even her looks became daring,” said Al Obaidaly. “Her friends convinced her to try a ‘delicious juice’ that was laced with drugs, which led her to addiction.”
