Residents were dubbing inside to stay away from the cold. There are icicle lights, christmas lights, that look like real he is cells. And an employee at an ice cream shop was left with no customers, as you can imagine. And tour efforts, who thought california was always warm and sunny, were surprised by the cold. I have the heater cranked up really high and brought extra blankets and are trying to get through it. Its been bitter cold since we arrived. The wind, the rain, ice, i thought i was back home. Also in this cold, the california Highway Patrol is warning about icy conditions as temperatures drop. Black eyes may form on bridges, overcrossings. They said you should let off the ice slowly if you hit the ice and dont hit the brakes or you will get into a tailspin. We hope you are all careful if you are headed out. You. And i sit here and i huddle next to the heater and thats what im doing right now because it got as low as 31 degrees in san mateo where we are overnight. As you said, i believe and lisa said, this is the coldest morning so far in this cold snap. Unfortunately i have to leave the warmth of the heater to come do my job. And there is a freeze warning for Santa Clara Valley and a frost advisory for communities along the San Francisco bay. Those both expire at 8 00 this morning. So hopefully there is some warmth ahead of us. But the cold, yes, its current and its behind us. Becoming The First Native American Appropriations Committee Chairman

On April 10th, I was ratified by the House Republican Conference as the new Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee - but not only did I just become the new Chairman, I also became the first Native American to ever Chair this Committee. As an enrolled member of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma, my tribal heritage is something I am very proud of, and I was very fortunate to witness this culture firsthand while growing up. My great, great grandfather served as the clerk for the Chickasaw Nation Supreme Court, my great grandfather was the Treasurer of Chickasaw Nation, my great aunt, Te Ata Fisher, was a famous actress and storyteller who performed Native American stories all over the world, and my late mother and inspiration, Helen Cole, was the first Native American woman elected to the Oklahoma State Senate. ....
