Police arrested Hefajat-e-Islam s Hathazari municipality unit s Assistant Dawah Secretary Aminul Islam and his associate Aftab Uddin Piayru in Chattogram s Fatikchhari yesterday over the mayhem unleashed in the upazila on March 26.
Additional Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Masum said Aminul, 27, was accused in several cases filed with Hathazari Police Station over the mayhem.
Aminul and Piayru, 30, were arrested in Raipu area early yesterday, he said.
The police official claimed to have recovered a few books and leaflets of Jamaat-e-Islam from the arrestees possession.
A total of 10 cases were filed with Hathazari Police Station accusing over 100 Hefajat leaders and BNP men including Hefajat Chief Junayed Babunagari over the March 26 violence, while more than 6,000 unidentified people were sued in the cases.

Police today arrested two more leaders of Hefajat-e-Islam in connection with the violence surrounding the organisation s protest of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi s visit in late March.
The arrestees are Mowlana Md Arif and Mowlana Md Tajul Islam.
Mowlana Arif is the science and technology affairs secretary of Hathazari municipality Hefajat unit while Mowlana Tajul is the assistant dawah affairs secretary of Hefajat s Hathazari upazila unit, said Hathazari Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam.

Police today arrested Hefajat-e-Islam s now defunct central committee assistant secretary general Maulana Jafar Ahmad and two others from Hathazari upazila in Chattogram.
The trio was arrested in connection with cases filed over the March 26 Hefajat mayhem, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent quoting police.
The two other arrestees are Jubo Dal leader Md Akramuddin, and Hefajat activist Salauddin. Police arrested the trio from a secret hideout in Hathazari upazila. Maulana Jafar Ahmad is FIR accused in two cases while the duo was arrested after scrutinising CCTV footages, Hathazari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam told The Daily Star.
