Steering committee to establish Sudan gold and minerals bourse

Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Jibril Ibrahim who also chairs the Board of Directors of the Stock Markets Regulatory Authority, has issued a decision forming a steering committee to prepare for establishment of a gold and minerals bourse, chaired by First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance.

February 9 - 2021 KHARTOUM PM Hamdok announces new gvt members in a press conference in Khartoum yesterday (SUNA) Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok announced the members of the transitional government s new cabinet in a press conference in Khartoum yesterday evening. The new cabinet brings in a total of 25 ministers, many of whom are part of the rebel parties that signed the Juba Peace Agreement. Hamdok stated that the formation was achieved through a political consensus to avoid a governmental ‘collapse’.  The formation of a new government provides more agency to the rebel parties that signed the Juba Peace Agreement. The Forces for Freedom and Chance (FFC) presented their list for 17 ministerial positions earlier this month. Last month, there were still disagreements among the members of the FFC regarding the nomination of new ministers.

Sudan Finance Minister: Reforms, not new currency

January 21 - 2021 KHARTOUM The SDG 200 note introduced in January 2019 The Sudanese government plans a raft of reforms to stimulate and boost Sudan’s ailing economy, rather than printing new currency, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Heba Mohamed says. These will include technical reforms, programmes to fight smuggling, combat inflation, and create investment opportunities. Minister Mohamed was responding to questions from Radio Dabanga regarding the future financial plans of Sudan following its removal from the US State Sponsors of Terrorism List, as well as the expected visit by the US Secretary of the Treasury and Export-Import Bank of the USA (EXIM).

Sudan Finance Minister: Education budget exceeds that of defence

January 20 - 2021 KHARTOUM Nuba school children in a school in Omdurman (RD) In a joint meeting yesterday, the Sovereign Council and the Council of Ministers approved this year’s National Budget for 2021. Acting Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Heba Mohamed said in a press conference following the meeting that an amount of SDG 137 billion, 12.5 per cent of the budget, is reserved for education. This represents an increase of 170 per cent compared to the education budget of last year. For the first time, the education budget exceeds the defence budget, , she said. Nine per cent of the 2021 budget, about SDG 99 billion, is allocated to the health sector, which includes support for life-saving medicines, the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and the rehabilitation and expansion of rural hospitals and health centres.
