Worcester, you get all snow. maybe 20 inches of snow. for places like albany and l lancaster and western pamarylan you will see all snow. the rain/snow mix will be the limiting factor for your snow. the closer you are to the coast, the more rain mixing in. the less snow you get. if you are 50 miles away from the coast, west of toms river, west of asbury park, that is where the big snow will be. atlantic city and toms river all the way down, you see the rain mixing in. you may not see anything on the ground. a mucky mess. the only reason to be outside if you are a weather forecaster like you or you are going to have a baby and going to the hospital. reporter: or snow plow guy. we want them out here. all right. ....
Creating whiteout conditions. schools closed in boston, philly and new york city. preemptive strike on the northeast. airlines have canceled 5,300 flights according to flightaware.com. as always, ahead of the possible blizzard, folks are clearing off grocery store shelves like the world will end today. it is scary. we have the latest on the storm with reporters along the east coast. starting with meteorologist chad myers here at columbus circle in new york. chad, when will the worst hit here in new york? reporter: i think 8:00 this morning. there may be thunder snow. it will be snowing so heavily. 2 to 3 inches of snow per hour. hard for the plows to keep up. i have not seen any salt yet in new york city. not where i am. i assume they want to push the snow into the hudson river. they don t like to brine or salt ....
While. they are expecting 55-mile-an-hour gusts today. that is the same power line issue. reporter: you know, that is a great way to open this up. we have been getting hit by the winds. forget the snow for right now. everything has turned to a slushy mess. we have seen cars blowing by us knocking all this water and slush off the roads. look here. the real issue may be black ice. the wind is really strong. of course, as we stand here, it is whipping us constantly. it whips in spurts at this point. a limited schedule on bus and train service in the area. we know schools are closed. the heavy snow we were expecting is mostly turning into rain pellets or the hard ice and sleet hitting us in the face. so far, so good for the area. more and more people are hitting the roads which i m not sure th that is a great thing. look at those roads and it ....
If it is 10 to 1 snow, light and fluffy snow. the snow you want to ski in, that is a 10-inch snowfall. or 20-inch snowfall. if you are 7 to 1, you get a 14-inch snowfall. you get rain mixed in in d.c. and boston, it is just muck. you have muck and snow and ice on your roads. you want to shovel it or trudge through it after icicle. it hasn t stopped for a long time. it will keep going all day. i would say at least another 10 hours of snow. boston, you are just starting. d.c., you are stopping. this is running up the east ....
