Without making a direct hit, but waves hit the northeastern coast. and there is a heavy rain advisory for northern parts of the island. joining us now with the latest on both these stories is meteorologist derek van dam. so records being shattered across the western u.s. and typhoon across east asia. yeah, let s start with the heatwave across the western u.s. because this is shattering records, over 155 records, potential high records possible from today right through the middle of this week. just incredible amounts of heat. take salt lake city for example, we have 40 million people under the heat alerts including much of southern and central california and even nevada and parts of utah as well. salt lake city had a record high temperature yesterday of 103 degrees. previous record in the month of september setting 102 was the day before that, so just incredible to see that we re experiencing day after day of monthly record high temperatures ....
