A NURSE had her hair pulled and was punched repeatedly in a prolonged attack by a patient in a mental health unit at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
Another nurse in her 60s came to her aid but was kicked in the head. A male patient eventually stepped in.
The bashing happened in front of younger colleagues who felt helpless and has sparked calls for added security. ....

Fears mount over COVID sewage tests

POSITIVE sewage tests for COVID-19 have been narrowed down to specific treatment plants, but locals in some areas aren t being directly warned in a loophole that could potentially allow the virus to slip through.
Health Minister Yvette D Ath revealed last weekend that sewage in the Gold Coast, Townsville, Cleveland and North Cairns had tested positive for coronavirus.
She and Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young urged residents of those areas to get a COVID test to ensure they were not contagious.
But the Gold Coast has four sewage treatment plants, stretching from Pimpama in the north to Elanora in the south, a distance of almost 50km. ....

THE Gold Coast sÂ top cop has hit back at dishonest locals claiming they are stranded and unsafe due to border blocks at smaller crossings, saying police cannot accommodate every whim.
It comes as Mudgeeraba resident Keith Douglas slammed a hard closure to Numinbah at Nerang-Murwillumbah Rd, claiming emergency vehicles could not pass and it was being unmanned by police.

The same closure was in place in March.
Mr Douglas said: Enough is enough. This is one of many problems affecting Gold Coast farmers.
This barrier has been lying on the side of the road for weeks so clearly there was anticipation by the government that it may need to be used. ....
