MADISON, Wis. Local health officials don’t want you to forget about screenings for other conditions amid the pandemic.
Sunday is Lung Cancer Awareness Day. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among men and women in the U.S. Smoking, exposure to hazardous materials and exposure to second-hand smoke are all risk factors, but it can be treated if caught early.
“They have peaked, but they are not significantly decreasing yet. In part, that is because we have gotten better at catching them early,” SSM Health Radiation Oncologist Dr. Tim Kruser said. “So, one of the things we’re trying to really emphasize to patients is that lung cancer screening has the chance to catch lung cancer early at a phase it is still curable.”
