(Las Vegas, NV) – The Wyoming Cowgirls met a familiar foe Sunday night to begin their Air Force Reserve Mountain West Tournament, as the seventh-seeded Cowgirls defeated No. 10 Utah State 69-41 to advance to Monday’s quarterfinal round. Sunday was Wyoming’s first game since February 13, which was also against Utah State. Sunday also marked the third consecutive season that UW and the Aggies have met at the conference tournament. Alba Sanchez Ramosgot the first five points of the game to help Wyoming knock off the rust early as the Cowgirls jumped out to an early 10-2 lead, forcing an Aggie timeout with 5:05 left in the opening quarter. (Laramie, WY) – The Wyoming Cowgirls had arguably their best offensive performance of the season and one of their best defensive performances on the year as Wyoming hit a barrage of 3-pointers, 17 of them, and held Utah State to 31 percent shooting, on the way to a 79-42 victory. (Laramie, WY) – The Wyoming Cowgirls were able to overcome a sluggish first half shooting the ball Thursday night in Laramie, thanks to a big second half on their way to a 54-36 win over San Diego State in game one of the series with the Aztecs. Wyoming (7-7, 5-6 MW) was powered by its two posts,Dagny DavidsdottirandMarta Savicin the win, as the duo combined for 31 points and 10 rebounds. Both recorded career-highs on the night as Davidsdottir scored 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting while also grabbing eight boards and recording a pair of steals. Savic meanwhile, went a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor, scoring 12 points off the bench in replacement of Davidsdottir. As a team, the Cowgirls outscored SDSU 44-8 in the paint. ....
(Laramie, WY) – For the second consecutive game, the Wyoming Cowgirls got a big game from Dagny Davidsdottir and as a team, had a big second half against Air Force Monday night on their way to a 59-46 victory inside the AA. For the second straight game, Davidsdottir tied a career-high with 16 points in the win and on Monday, also tied a career-best mark with 12 rebounds. Davidsdottir went 8-for-12 from the floor and also recorded a pair of blocks on the night as well. Advertisement The Cowgirls (6-5, 4-4 MW) had a big second half, especially the third quarter when they outscored Air Force (3-8, 1-5 MW) 19-8 in the first 10 minutes after halftime. UW hit 8-of-15 shots in the frame while Air Force went just 2-of-9. The Cowgirls led by as many as 13 in the quarter, 41-28 with 3:14 left to play after opening the half on a 17-5 run and led 43-31 heading into the final quarter. ....
