As a kid, I used to love when the circus came to town. Early one morning, there would be the ping-ping ping of the tent pegs being driven into the ground in The Green, just behind my home house in Ballinrobe. We would go to school excited with the thought that by the time we ran home at lunchtime across the town for a quickly-consumed dinner (dinner in the middle of the day people, you see ), the town park would have been transformed into something colourful and magical and so very different from the nothingness that was normally there.
There’s a brand new season brochure in town, and it’s jam packed full of fantastic events. Town Hall Theatre audiences will be spoilt for choice in the weeks and months ahead with the sizzling line-up just announced for July, August and September, featuring many leading names in local, national and international theatre, music, comedy, dance and film. You’ll find more information on the summer/autumn programme, including details of the Galway Film Fleadh (July 11-16 ) and Galway International Arts Festival (July 17-30 ) published in the new brochure available to download from tht.ie or from the venue 091-569777. Tickets for all performances, screenings and events are now on sale.
Finally the Galway Film Fleadh is back in all its glory. After an online only event in 2020 and a hybrid event in 2021 that was mostly online with a few outdoor screenings it was back to being in person in the Town Hall on Tuesday. It was so good to be back.
Compared to the past two years, this year s Galway Film Fleadh feels positively idyllic and director of programming Will Fitzgerald makes no bones about it. He was gushing with enthusiasm when we spoke this week.
