PLEASANTON – The Amador Valley High School boys lacrosse team stayed eligible for the North Coast Section playoffs with a dominating 21-1 win over Dublin on April 19.
Nolan Hickman scored 20 points and No. 17 Gonzaga pulled away in the second half to beat San Francisco 89-77 on Monday night and extend its streak to 27 years of making the West Coast Conference Tournament title game. The Bulldogs will play No. 21 Saint Mary's on Tuesday night for the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, though the loser will make the 68-team field as an at-large team. Ben Gregg and Anton Watson each scored 17 points, and Ryan Nembhard had 16.
Graham Ike scored 26 points and No. 23 Gonzaga clinched a bye into the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament by beating San Francisco 86-68 on Thursday night. The Bulldogs (23-6, 13-2) won their 29th straight game against the Dons (22-8, 11-4) to wrap up the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament behind regular-season champion No. 17 Saint Mary's. The top two teams get byes to the semifinals meaning Gonzaga will need to win only two games in Las Vegas to win the conference tournament and earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Mitchell Saxen scored 20 points, Alex Ducas added 18 and No. 18 Saint Mary's extended the longest active winning streak in the nation to 14 straight games with a 70-66 victory over San Francisco on Tuesday night. The Gaels (22-6, 13-0 West Coast Conference) remained the only team in the country unbeaten in conference play but it didn't come easy against their cross-bay rivals.
