Cnbc named north carolina number five for top states in business. the commerce secretary there in north carolina says there has been no impact impact, at least not measurable on north carolina s economy. does it matter though if we are seeing the political impact of what it did for conservatives there. yeah. well, it wouldn t be the first time that the media focused on an economic impact that was supposedly devastating that wasn t actually born out by the numbers, right? i think the most interesting thing about this looking forward is whether this becomes a model for how democrats operate nationwide. they are taking a position that i think is still a minority position. remember, i mean, to charlie s point, what hb 2 did was in effect say that people should go to the bathrooms assigned with the biology that they were born with. which i think for most americans is not that controversial. it s not that mean spirited. that s what the polling shows. but what you saw was this massive m ....
Repeal? i plan on voting no on anything that s done here because it s all unconstitutional. reporter: by now, everyone knows just how detrimental hb 2 has been to the economy. an estimated $650 million lost with entertainers like bruce springsteen pulling out. the ncaa canceling events. the nba pulling out an all-star game. for republicans we spoke to, the ardent supporters of hb 2, it s not just an economic issue but also a moral one. they told me they did not want to be told by democrats how to vote and when to vote. ultimately this is, yes, about politics but it is about people, especially those in the lgbtq community. after that vote, after the legislature adjourned, i caught up with activist candis cox. i was at least optimistic that we would make some headway. in sitting in both the senate and the house and listening to a lot of the arguments that have been going back and forth and the proposals, it appears that they called the special session ....
Non-discrimination ordinance. lawmakers were supposed to look at that and come back here and repealed hb 2 because of the loss of millions of dollars of revenue. in the end, there was a lot of back and forth here and the legislative building and last night, the governor elect roy cooper responded to all of this. take a listen. republican legislative leaders have broken their war to me and they have broken their trust with the people of north carolina. so certainly, the back and forth continues, republicans are blaming democrats for not accepting a six month moratorium for non discrimination ordinances. so now the question is, will hb ....

As you just saw, it fell apart. lawmakers leaving for the night after 7:30 last night, and basically, here s what happened. democrats are blaming republicans. republicans are blaming democrats. this all goes back to that nondiscrimination ordinance that charlotte signed earlier this year that prompt eed house bill, the bathroom bill. the city council yesterday voted to repeal that entirely, but some republicans here at the house didn t think they did that fast enough. when lawmakers came here to repeal hb-2, they said they didn t trust what some of the democrats were doing. so this deal started to fall apart. democrats wouldn t go along with a compromise that republicans proposed, a six-month moratorium on other nondiscrimination ordinances being enacted throughout the state, so in the end, this deal to repeal hb-2, which many people have said has cost the city of north carolina millions of dollars in lost revenue, that deal fell apart. now, the state legislature is not expected to mee ....
