An armed robber in Cleveland has his plans ruined Friday by two convenience store employees who were not about to become victims.
Employees of a convenience store in the city’s Stockyards neighborhood thwarted an armed robbery Friday by sneaking up behind the masked gunmen, putting a gun to his back and firing warning shots into the ceiling, according to police.
The employees held Fredrick Thornton, 26, at gunpoint inside the Convenient Food Mart on Clark Avenue until police took him into custody, according to police reports and surveillance footage of the incident.
Thornton is charged with aggravated robbery. He is being held in the Cleveland City Jail on $100,000 bond after his first court appearance on Monday.

Reigning Asian champions Qatar will take on regional heavyweights Iraq and two other qualifiers in the group stage of the inaugural FIFA Arab Cup 2021, the draw revealed yesterday.
The two Arab football giants have been drawn in Group A and will be joined by the winners of two qualifying matches: Oman vs Somalia and Bahrain vs Kuwait in the December 1-18 tournament.
FIFA’s Director of Competitions, Manolo Zubiria conducted yesterday’s draw in the presence of FIFA legends Wael Gomaa (Egypt), Nawaf Al Temyat (Saudi Arabia), Haytham Mustafa (Sudan) and Younus Mahmood (Iraq) at the Katara Opera House.

The first FIFA Arab Cup - to be held in Qatar later this year - will unite the Arab world, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said yesterday.
Infantino made his remarks before the draw ceremony of the 16-team tournament which was held at the Katara Opera House where regional sports and football bigwigs were also in attendance.
The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani was joined by Qatar Football Association (QFA) President H E Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed AlThani and the AFC chief Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa. Qatar will host the December 1-18 event at six brand new stadiums to be used during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Fourteen out of a total of 23 teams yesterday learned their opponents in the qualifying round ahead of the historic FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021 draw which takes place at Katara Opera House tonight.
The highly sought-after event will kick off the proceedings at 9:00pm under strict COVID-19 protocols implemented by the Ministry of Public Health.
The organisers yesterday revealed the face-offs between the 14 lowest-ranked teams among the participants according to the April edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings and they will participate in single-leg play-offs ahead of the tournament, which will be held later this year.
The countdown towards the historic FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021™ (www.FIFA.com) will reach an important milestone today (Tuesday 27 April) when the draw takes place, and you can watch the event as it happens.
