Turn out well. now, before i get commentary, i have some comments from two people, one is barack obama and one is bill cosby because there s a story behind the story. too many fathers are awol, missing from too many lives and too many homes. they ve abandoned their responsibilities. they re acting like boys instead of men. and the foundations of our families have suffered because of it. you and i know this is true everywhere, but nowhere is it more true than in the african-american community. i m talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit. where were you when he was 2? where were you when he was 12? where were you when he was 18? and how come you don t know he ....
Seen anyone trashed in the news media like this guy. i mean, the one thing we know about him, is that he was in prison, in effect, with the taliban for five years. and as soon as he gets out, everybody wants to throw him back in jail. it s kind of amazing to me. but, okay. just to answer your questions, since you asked, desertion, the maximum penalty in not a time of war is five years. but desertion is very hard to prove, because you have to prove the the military would have to prove he had no intention of returning to his base. and that s a little different difficult to prove. going awol, which is a little easier on the government, 18 months is the maximum penalty. okay. and i hear your first point, by the way, loud and clear. let me pifrt, just because i want to move off bowe bergdahl. this just came in moments ago to us from washington about this bill sponsored by senate democrats, showing the opposition to the supreme court s decision over hobby lobby, its ruling on contracep ....
A pathetic loser. he s not the real issue here. it s much greater than private or sergeant bergdahl if you want to call him that. the issue is that we re on the verge of establishing a precedent that desertion in the face of the enemy is no big deal. and if chairman of the joint chiefs, general dempsey, wants that to be his legacy to the military, fine. but megyn, i believe we re seeing a carefully modulated whitewash in which the administration is determined that evidence be damned he will not be labeled to a misdemeanor charge of awol, absent without leave, and the administration wants bergdahl to retain full lifetime benefits, general or honorable discharge, all the back pay. and military people are furious about it. ....
Of some sort to figure out why he left. if it s awol, that s one punishment. as we see iraq, all our hard work and incredible war effort and the surge go to pieces, as we think about those five taliban that are going to be taking back trying to take back afghanistan, is america okay with giving to figure out what the president was think to go give these five people back knowing afghanistan will be under tremendous stress and some kind of internal conflict. he wants to close gitmo one guy at time. it should be a lesson for him. he put his political objectives ahead of national security in deciding to run away in iraq. basically he snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. biden was unable to negotiate the status of forces agreement, which was a tremendous failure. no one focuses on. probably the key to this all falling apart. only talked to them twice in nine months. we left nobody behind. we were proposing too small a force anyway. it was obvious the president ....
Evidence to come in. what do you think about this? first of all, i don t know whether it s true or not. doesn t seem to be anybody else deserted. you have a lot of soldiers testifying against him saying he deserted. he certainly was at least awol if not a deserter. nobody else seems to have done it and they were in the same unit. so i don t know how much of a defense that s going to be. and is isn t a defense at all. you can t say, i m going to desert because i don t like the conditions of my unit. my boss stinks. i m leaving. but how about in the time of war? first of all, conditions in units in times of war are always stressful. if you allowed this as a defense, half the unit could walk out. benefit of the doubt has been given to him, but not those who have given their testimony of being there right with him in the platoon. why? i m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but at a minimum, he walked away, which he s awol. maximum he s a desert. somebody has to figure ....
