Gunmen have killed more than 100 people in a dawn attack in the western Benishangul-Gumuz region of Ethiopia.
The attack occurred on Wednesday in the village of Bekoji in Bulen county in the Metekel zone, an area where multiple ethnic groups are living.
In a separate part of the country, Ethiopia’s military has been fighting rebels in the northern Tigray region for more than six weeks.

AT least 102 civilians have reportedly been massacred in the latest outbreak of ethnic violence in Ethiopia.
Local reports said the Ethiopian army had responded by killing at least 42 militants in the western region of Benishangul-Gumuz.

The attack, by unknown assailants, came a day after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, his military chief of staff and other senior federal officials visited the region hoping to calm tensions following other recent deadly incidents.

Ethiopian military 'kills 42 people involved in deadly attack' | Conflict News


Ethiopia’s military has killed 42 armed men accused of taking part in a massacre in the western Benishangul-Gumuz region, state-affiliated Fana TV reported on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the country’s human rights commission said gunmen killed more than 100 people in a dawn attack in the village of Bekoji, Benishangul-Gumuz.
Fana TV, citing regional officials, reported that soldiers seized bows, arrows and other weapons in the raid.
Earlier on Thursday, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said forces were deployed to the region, an area which has seen regular ethnic violence.
“The massacre of civilians in Benishangul-Gumuz region is very tragic,” Abiy said on Twitter. “The government, to solve the root causes of the problem, has deployed a necessary force.” ....
