The final results of the by-election to NA-249 in Karachi were held back on Saturday, after the results were challenged by PML-N’s Miftah Ismail.
All candidates have been called May 4. Miftah Ismail wanted a recount in the entire constituency. He applied for a recount and the two-member ECP bench decided to grant it. The ECP said in a two-page note that since every candidate was complaining of how polling had taken place, that they could withhold the results, which had not been declared final anyway. ....

206 nomination papers found valid for 1st phase of Bengal assembly polls

After scrutiny of nomination
papers filed for 30 constituencies in West Bengals first phase of assembly election, the authorities found those of 206 candidates valid, a CEO official said on Wednesday.
Altogether 222 candidates have filed their nominations for the first phase of polling to be held on March 27. Of them, the nomination papers of 16 were found invalid, the official of the state Chief Electoral Officers office said.
The nomination paper of the Trinamool Congress Joypur candidate Ujjwal Kumar and that of the BJPs Shankar Kumar who was nominated for Baghmundi seat were rejected.
The ECI also found the papers of two Congress candidates - Nepal Mahato (Baghmundi) and Subhas Mahata (Kashipur) invalid, the official said. ....

Court jails Nisar Morai for 11 years
Seeks documentation from witness in illegal land allotment reference
KARACHI:
An accountability court on Saturday sentenced Nisar Morai and others accused to 11 years of imprisonment in the reference pertaining to illegal appointments and contracts in Fishermen Cooperative Society.
The court awarded seven years of imprisonment and a penalty of Rs10m to each of the convicts including Morai and Sultan Qamar Siddiqi. The other persons convicted include Imran Afzal and Shoukat Hussain.
The court also sentenced Morai to four years of additional imprisonment and a penalty of Rs500,000 for making illegal appointments. While announcing the verdict the court said that Morai made 143 illegal appointments in Fisheries and regularised 20 employees. However, the others accused were not found guilty of involvement in the illegal appointments. ....
