The September 2020 gang rape of a woman stranded on Sialkot-Lahore motorway shook Pakistan from its apathetic stance on sexual violence against women. The woman who was beaten and raped in front of her children became the tragic rallying sign for the imperativeness of steps for prevention of rape and certainty of punishment.
In December 2020, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government’s landmark bill for protection of rights of victims and survivors of sexual violence, sexual abuse and rape and the certainty of punishment titled the Anti-Rape (Investigation & Trial) Ordinance, 2020 was approved by President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi. Also approved was an amendment in the Pakistan Penal Code, titled Criminal law (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020.
ISLAMABAD: The capital administration on Thursday lifted the restriction of timings on commercial activities and amusement parks.
The ban was lifted in compliance with the directions of the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC). A notification issued from the office of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Hamza Shafqaat said the time limits had been lifted from commercial activities and amusement parks.
Besides, condition of 50 per cent work from home is also removed, it said.
Cinemas and shrines are allowed to open with stringent Covid-19 safety measures from March 15, the notification stated, adding indoor wedding ceremonies will also be allowed from March 15 with the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Online training for civil officers launched

PESHAWAR: The 31st Mid-Career Management Course (MCMC) to provide 10 weeks of online training to the civil officers was launched here on Monday.
Addressing an inaugural function of 31st MCMC here at National Institute of Management NIM, Director General Hassan Mehmood Yousafzai said MCMC was an important in-service training programme exclusively designed to strengthen the capacity of the civil servants.
He said 31st MCMC was the second training course planned primarily in an online mode, adding efforts would be made that this 10 weeks-long online course could be highly productive and fulfilling all the learning experiences of the participants.
