We ve got tomorrow and that s it. we saw this last thursday trying to develop but only a 20% chance of doing so. we ve got heavy rain down in western cuba. i think it may be interesting to see what this may do to the red teed problem in florida. maybe enough cold-water could help disperse that. the models are in good agreement. again, this looks it s going to be make landfall. after the noon hour on wednesday and skirt by quickly. this is not going to be like harvey last year or even florence so we re not going to see 20, 30 inch totals. this is more of a traditional classic hurricane that will be a major hurricane. that s category 3. in red are the warnings. from the border of alabama all the way to the swanee river. and that said this is vulnerable coastline. it s not like the outer banks where you have that intercoastal area. you have a sea level slow rise well inland. ....
In harvey last year in houston, is that people just think i have still got time i can get out. i m moving. water comes um and can you get 2, 3, 4, 5 feet of water in literally a matter of minutes. and that is why it is so dangerous. you know, been given the stats the past few days days about 75% of fatalities occur from flooding and surge waters, only about 8% occur from actually wind damage of hurricanes. that is a telling number. and now you can see how it happens. this gentleman has found a high line to walk on here. we don t know presumably he is a resident in this area or has a vehicle stuck. we re going to stay here for a second. try to find out what s happening in this community. but we re also going to try to get up to new bern. we would like to get on a boat with the cajun navy try to give you a firsthand look at some of the rescues happening there. but, this is a reality. and the difficulty of the terrain and the conditions you are dealing with ....
They are prepared to provide food, hydration, cleanup kits, hygiene supplies, particularly emotional character the first responders and survivors. shannon: reading about a lot of what you did with harvey last year and what you are doing with the storm, that caught my attention, that you provide counseling and spiritual support for people because for a lot of these folks, they will be absolute devastation to all of their worldly possessions. how do you meet them in that place and provide support? that is a challenge. because people are obviously affected in ways that they have never experienced in their lives. we saw this in houston, and the areas around houston after the massive floods they are hurricane harvey. we have to come in and be where they are out and take care of them immediately first, feeding, making sure they have a safe, secure place to stay and we sit and visit with them. mainly, we listen. we just want to hear what they have to say and how we can effect change in th ....
Where you are right now. take us through what that means in the low-lying areas like that. what that means, john, is where i m standing right now will be under water later. we will be out of here soon after we do this shot because the weather is going to get worse. that s the problem. the water and the wind and the rain, the inland flooding, they are all huge threats and you can t run from the water. if this system continues to move towards the coastline that slows down even more, those flooding rains will create big, big problems. people were comparing this because of the water. what s your take? well, we were in harvey last year and the storm surge element was not as big of a deal as the inland flooding and extreme wind damage. this could be all of the above. even though the winds are a ....
We have rick leventhal in wrightsville beach, north carolina. we begin with jeff flock in carolina beach. we just talked to town manager there, jeff, and he says they feel prepared. i think they are. there s still a lot of people here. you never know. we re 17 hours away as you look at a very angry atlantic ocean. this is low tide right now. so we re nowhere near what we re going to get later tonight and as the storm comes in. the national hurricane center says 8:00 a.m. tomorrow the eye or eye wall or part of the hurricane is on us here. we re a long way away and still getting the outer bands. i want to show you pictures of flooding already here. i think that s the story when this is said and done. harvey last year in houston. you know, that s one that was not so much about the hurricane. it was about the water. that may be the story when we re done here. for now, still weighting for the ....
