President Donald Trump has sent lawmakers an initial request for a USD 7.9 billion down payment toward Harvey relief and recovery efforts.
The request, expected to be swiftly approved by Congress, would add USD 7.4 billion to rapidly dwindling Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster aid coffers and USD 450 million to finance disaster loans for small businesses. ....

Administration asking big-time for money here in terms of aid for those suffering from harvey. how much are we talking about, garrett? reporter: well, we re starting off with $7.85 billion. that s more than even the initial indication that we had gotten from the white house a few days ago. they are trying to get as much money into this economy, into this system down here as possible. the bulk of that money will go to fema and dealing with the short-term response. it s important to point out the white house views this as a down payment. they know this is nowhere near the end of the amount of money the gulf coast will need to rebuild, that people will need down there, even for basic things like housing. as the floodwaters recede, as people start going back to work, expect the amount of money and the additional requests to go up. for right now, $7.85 billion is the number officially requested of this congress. by all accounts, paul ryan, majority leader mitch mcconnell in the senate say ....
