17 December 2020 Product Logistics firm Gist has begun a three-month trial of Ecogen generators to slash emissions of its truck refrigeration units at its site in Spalding, Lincolnshire. The generators plug into existing diesel refrigeration units and convert them to electric power, which is said to allow them to achieve the same environmental classification as the vehicle. “The hybrid-drive system harnesses kinetic energy from the truck and recycles it into electrical energy for the transport refrigeration unit,” said Gist’s head of engineering Mick Pethard.
“By taking power via the rear of the engine into this equipment, which converts this into electricity to power the fridge on electric rather than red diesel – which means no CO2 being created by the fridge.” ....
16 December 2020 Product Culina Group has taken delivery of 134 new Volvo FH 460 6x2 tractor units with Globetrotter cabs following a trial. They will be used to deliver food and drink products seven days a week, will cover between 150,000km and 260,000km per annum, and are expected to remain in service for three years. The trucks, which join the company’s fleet of 2,400 commercial vehicles, were supplied by Hartshorne Motor Services on a Volvo Financial Services operating lease, and include the manufacturer’s Gold Contract R&M package, which “guarantees the best possible uptime” and includes access to its dealer network. They include Volvo’s Dynafleet telematics system and its long-haul fuel package. ....
