Dozens of CT school bus incidents leave trail of injuries - many of them to children, court records show

There are nearly 40 active civil lawsuits filed over the past three years against three of Connecticut’s largest school bus companies that show a trend of accidents resulting in a range of injuries to students, school staff members and drivers, according to court documents.
Many of the lawsuits have been filed by family members of students who claim injuries were caused by school bus accidents or negligence by the bus driver, court documents show. ....

20 Arrested In Protest Inside CT Department Of Health

Connecticut State Police arrested 20 nursing home and long-term care workers after they entered a state office building and refused to leave during a protest calling for better wages and health care.
The arrest took place around 4:57 p.m., Thursday, April 8 when the protestors entered the state s Office of the Policy & Management building located at 450 Capitol Ave., in Hartford, said the Connecticut State Police.
Troopers were called in after the Hartford Police reported a protest involving approximately 100 individuals.
When troopers arrived on the scene, it was learned the 20 individuals entered the building and refused to disperse despite several directives ordering them to leave the premises, state police said. ....

'We Are So Invisible': Unionized Health Workers Protest Lack Of Funding In Lamont's State Budget

Twice this week, unionized workers have shut down streets around the capitol in protest of Gov. Ned Lamont’s state budget plans.
Most recently, long-term care workers and members of New England Health Care Employees Union District 1199, SEIU staged a picket Thursday afternoon outside the state Office of Policy and Management in Hartford. 
They demanded that the state provide more funding for better wages and benefits that reflect their roles on the front-lines of the pandemic in nursing facilities, home care, and group homes.
“We are so invisible, we are so voiceless to them,” union president Rob Baril said into a bull horn, “that they can’t find money to pay people who have suffered, who have bled, you have comforted the ill and who understand every day what it is to fight to make Black and brown lives matter, to make the lives of the elderly and the sick matter.” ....
