The Benin monarch, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, on Wednesday, approved the appointment of Mr Igbinoghodua Edebiri as the new presiding priest of Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Benin.
The approval of the new Ohen-Osa of Benin national church by the Oba is sequel to the recommendation of the elders council of the church.
Mr Frank Irabor, secretary of Benin Traditional Council (BTC) disclosed this in a press statement made available to newsmen in Benin City.
The statement directed the new priest to immediately open the Benin traditional church, which was temporarily under lock and key for worship and spiritual activities, following the removal of the former priest, Harrison Okao.

As part of measures to expedite the reopening of the Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Benin which was recently closed down for reorganisation as a result of the removal of the Ohenosa (Chief Priest), Mr Harrison Okao, the Elders Council has been dissolved.
A statement yesterday in Benin by Mr Frank Irabor, the secretary of Benin Traditional Council (BTC) explained that the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba Ewuare ll, has approved the appointment of Chief Norense Obamwonyi as the chairman of the Interim Elders Council in place of the erstwhile acting chairman, Chief Jackson Omonomose Igbinovia.

THE Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II has suspended Mr. Harrison Okao as Ohenosa of Holy Arousa Cathedral over alleged unauthorised ministration.
A statement by the Secretary, Benin Traditional Council (BTC), Frank Irabor said the suspension is based on recommendation from the Joint Elders Committee of the Cathedral and some senior chiefs of the Benin palace.
He said the suspension was predicated upon “long-standing lingering breach and non-charlatan by Okao over several years and age-long custom and tradition.
“This decision is expected to bring lasting peace, sanity and tranquillity to the holy spiritual environment that is imperative in the Holy Aruosa Cathedral of Benin which has hitherto been absent in the Holy Arousa because of the non-compliance with tradition and custom by Harrison Okao over several years,” the statement added.
