For a limited time, there is an opportunity to bid for one of the high quality picnic tables built by local apprentices at last month’s Manawatu-Whanganui regional heat of the New Zealand Certified Builders (NZCB) Apprentice Challenge Sponsored by ITM, with all proceeds going to the Cancer Society.

Marton teenager Harrison Gillard has edged out three other apprentices to win the title of Manawatū New Zealand Certified (NZCB) Apprentice Challenge champion for 2021 and will now head to the national final.
The apprentices were given eight hours to build a picnic table that followed specific design plans and met minimum safety standards, putting their skills to the test in a tense environment.
Using materials provided by ITM, Each picnic table must meet minimum safety standards to complete the project. Craig Whitton, NZCB regional association president for Manawatū, said the challenge tested how well the new generation of builders were absorbing their training in a fun, pressured environment.
