Federal Court upholds ruling that Nurul Izzah, Saifuddin Nasution did not defame NFCorp, chairman


PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court has held that Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar and Kulim MP Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail did not defame the National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd (NFCorp) and its chairman.
In a unanimous decision, a three-man panel chaired by Federal Court judge Justice Mohd Zawawi Salleh dismissed the appeal of NFCorp and Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail and ordered them to pay RM50,000 in costs to Nurul Izzah, and Saifuddin who was sued in his capacity as PKR secretary-general.
Other judges on the bench were Justices Hasnah Mohammed Hashim and Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal.
NFCorp and Salleh had sued Nurul Izzah for her statements made in a press conference at Parliament, during her time as the Lembah Pantai MP in 2012, relating to the company s planned purchase of eight units of condominiums at KL Eco City using RM71.4mil of government funds as leverage some nine years ago. ....

PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court has reinstated a High Court decision that ordered Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa) and its president Datuk Ibrahim Ali to pay RM150,000 in damages to former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for defamation.
In a 2-1 majority decision which was delivered via Zoom, the three-member bench led by Federal Court judge Datuk Nallini Pathmanathan allowed Lim’s appeal to set aside the Court of Appeal’s decision which had overturned the High Court ruling.  ....
