Cleveland State President Harlan Sands says school hired man with criminal record because 37 other applicants lacked ‘skills and experience’ Updated Jan 23, 2021; Facebook Share CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State University President Harlan Sands on Friday defended hiring a late applicant with a criminal record as a $140,000-a-year associate vice president, stating that the other 37 applicants lacked the “right skills and experience to fill this critical role at our university.’ In an email sent Friday night to faculty and staff, Sands also reiterated that the school was aware that Douglas Dykes was still on probation when hired last month, and that “we believe in providing talented individuals with second chances.” ....
