COVID-19: Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan approves Sinopharm vaccine for people over age 60

Islamabad: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a notification authorizing the use of the Chinese COVID-19 vaccine Sinopharm for people over 60 years of age. The measure has been taken two months after the vaccine was first approved for use in the country. A spokesperson of the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) confirmed the authorization for the said age group saying all healthcare workers registered with National Immunisation Management System (NIMS ) above 60 years could now get themselves vaccinated from designated vaccine centers. Earlier, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health (SAPM) Dr Faisal Sultan had cautioned that the Sinopharm shot was not recommended for people older than 60 years. However, later he himself dismissed the notion and got himself inoculated with the same vaccine. According to the health authorities senior citizens other than health workers would also start receiving jabs soon.

Educationist Qazi Jamil dies of Covid-19 - Newspaper

HARIPUR: Renowned poet, journalist and educationist Prof Qazi Jamil died of coronavirus here on Friday night. He was 71. Qazi Jamil was admitted to the coronavirus ward of the Haripur District Headquarters Hospital about two weeks ago when his condition worsened. He remained on ventilator for over a week but could not survive and breathed his last on Friday night. He was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Sera-i-Saleh on Saturday. Qazi Jamil was paternal grandson of renowned Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind activist of Qazi Aziz ur Rehman, who launched weekly Urdu newspaper ‘Paigham-i-Sarhad’ from Haripur in late 30s. The weekly later was made a daily and kept on publishing till 1971 when Qazi Aziz passed away.
