Welcome back. amid the impeachment fallout and the approaching 2020 contest, our new nbc/ wall street journal poll shows most of the country s actually made up its mind about president trump. but there is a slice of the electorate that has not. democrats and republicans everywhere, you might want to pay attention because these are the voters that are going to decide the president s fate. 34% of registered voters tell us they are certain to vote for trump in 2020. that s his hard base. 48% tell us this month they are certain to vote against the president. it s actually ticked up two points. 18% of registered voters say they may vote either way depending on the democratic nominee. this group is key and they re not like your typical swing voters of elections past. our pollsters call this group squishy republicans. ....
There s a very small narrowing, hard base that will be there. millions of more people who are motivated and energized by the shadiness, if nothing else. and then the pocket issues that aren t being discussed. at the end of the day, who is motivated to go and vote? on the ruining front there s polling that shows he s got a hard and fast base but it s smaller and smaller and smaller. at the same sometime, elected republicans are joining in this idea that you can brings down the reputation of a christopher steele, of a bob robert mueller and rosenstein. there was talk of impeaching him. mark meadows of north carolina has backed off that after leadership intervened. that idea is on the table, of trying to take down rod rosenstein. sometimes the obstruction of justice is right out in the open. you see donald trump doing it. he tries to do it on twitter. that s what house republicans have been trying to do. they are looking for any way ....
We are. i don t disagree with both of you. i think dee raises a great point. the way, quite frankly, the pentagon, spending cuts dealt with the pentagon, nobody in their right mind would think that s the best way to do this. at the same time i look at the landscape and think to myself, in order to get some relief from all of this, democrat and republican, you ve got to have people that sit at the table and are willing to put in a little on each side noed to lessen the overall sequestration burden. my question is just this whole exercise is not made sitting at that table any easier. in fact, it s probably elevated, the choruses on both sides, the hard base chorus on each side which ultimately will make it harder to find that solution in the center from both sides. a constructive role here and come in and try to ease that path by bringing democrats along to that place. absolutely. i think that s probably the role he has to play. ....
