Dear ER:
Is it just me or do all the current Hermosa Beach City Council members and all the council candidates for Hany Fangary’s replacement seem exactly the same in their point of view? What’s going on? I prefer to hear different opinions and to have lively discussions on the council. Seems like we are only looking for like-minded puppets for the environmental lawyers on council. All groups need to be represented, and not all residents agree with what has been happening to this city under the strong arm rule of Councilperson Justn Massey. While environmental concerns are important, there are other equally significant issues to address. Hermosa doesn’t have to become a single issue town. The council is starting to seem like the Stepford Wives. ....

Tara McNamara wants to make it easier for Hermosa Beach residents to participate in local government issues, and she has a plan to accomplish this if she wins the lone city council seat now up for grabs. The mail-in election, currently ongoing, concludes May 11.
Five candidates seek the position vacated by Hany Fangary, who resigned late last year because he was moving to Manhattan Beach.
“I call it my ‘problem-solving’ app,” McNamara said this week. “It’s capabilities are really amazing. And the concept is simple. Residents identify a problem or issue, discuss it, agree on it, take it to the council, which would then place the item on an agenda for public discussion. That way residents have a stronger voice in decisions being made for them.” ....

With ballots already arriving in the mail and sample ballots being sent out this week, voters will decide among five candidates for a Hermosa Beach City Council seat in an all mail-in election on May 11.
The candidates are from diverse backgrounds and recently discussed a few issues about outdoor dining and its impacts on local businesses, the importance of city’s small town feel while hosting events that attract thousands of visitors and world-wide attention and why they feel they offer a new perspective to the City Council.
The five candidates are:

It was time to “give back” to his community, Randy Balik said. So he became one of five candidates for an open seat on Hermosa Beach’s city council.
Now, just weeks before the May 11, mail-in election, the long-time city resident and environmental scientist is taking some heat unwarranted and misunderstood, he asserts for one of his professional associations. ....
