ESCANABA At about 11:20 p.m. Thursday, a deputy with the Delta County Sheriff’s Office was in Meijer when an employee reported that shoplifting, known legally as “retail fraud,” had just occurred. The deputy went to the parking lot and located the suspect in a vehicle leaving the area.
The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled, leading to a pursuit. Eventually, the vehicle pulled over on 14th Road near M-69, where the driver fled on foot.
The driver, a male who was not immediately identified, was from the Wilson area and was located in the woods about two hours later and taken into custody.
