When a mild winter threatened the 2024 Ontario Winter Games cross-country ski events, the Thunder Bay community came together to make sure the athletes would have enough snow to compete. As the race at Lappe Nordic Centre went off without a hitch, officials and participants said the massive effort is a testament to Thunder Bay’s deep love of nordic skiing.
While competition was fierce, athletes from Thunder Bay, and across northwestern Ontario, put on strong showings at the 2024 Ontario Winter Games on Saturday. Here's a look at some of the results after the first day of competition.
Kierra Hall finished fourth in the female race and three local skiers had top 15 finishes in the male competition. Hall and three teammates went on to finish third in the relay race.
